On Nature

In all cultures around the world, we have sought to understand the natural life surrounding us.  To that end, there have been different systems in different times and places created to help us organize the vast diversity found on our planet.  The current language of science uses a system based on the “Systema Naturae” (1735) by Carl von Linné, now referred to as the Linnaeus system of taxonomy.   The three kingdoms of his world are Regnum Animale (Animals), Regnum Vegetabile (Vegetables), and Regnum Lapideum (Minerals).  Lets look at some of the patterns found in each of these amazing realms.

Animal

How lonely I would be without the company of animals. They make outstanding teachers when I am patient enough to listen, as their insights are not revealed all at once.

Vegetable

So much of our world revolves around plant life. Plants provide us with our homes, our food, our medicine, and even the very air we breathe.  I find them wonderful allies.

Mineral

Is it far-fetched to believe the earth can support us? She has been doing her best for a fair few years. Surely there is something we can discover inside her grounded expanse.

On Time

It seems to me that there is some discord between our intuitive experiences of time and the current science regarding time.  We have long observed it in the changing moon and seasons.  We have sought to organize it by creating calendars and clocks.  We experience time as slow or fleeting.  For many, the past appears settled as a concrete thing while the future is ethereal and full of possibility.  Lately, we are beginning to remember that the past has many voices including our metaphorical and mythological tales.  So I must ask, “is time an actual thing or is it rather an intellectual experiment?”  Even Einstein said that “Time and space are modes by which we think and not conditions in which we live.”

Past

The world offers us varied pantheons of gods, goddesses, witches, and other fanciful characters. These archetypes are recurrent patterns in our narratives.

Present

Time can be measured in so many ways. It gives us both order and meaning.  Months, weeks, days, hours, moons, and sabbats are all eager for commemoration.

Future

Curiosity inspires us to look into the future and see what it might hold for us. The sacred art of divination aids us in seeking an elusive truth.

On Humans

In English, the word ‘human’ is derived from the Latin humanus perhaps combining the Latin words homo (man) and humus (earth).  That speaks to many origin stories, but does not tell us much about how to be human.  The word ‘humane’ however gives us more guidance and is defined as being gentle, polite, learned, kind, compassionate, and generous.  Being human is an intricate dance interweaving our ability to think, our passionate bodies, and our essence of being.

Mind

The drive to understand our world is strong.  In that vein, we have created a wide variety of logical systems incuding numbers, letters, shapes, and an array of sciences to go with them.

Body

The body is a beautiful and intricate work of art.  The complexities of its workings, along with the lack of a general care manual, has led to many significant and insightful paradigms.

Spirit

We have bodies and minds that structurally work in relatively predictable fashions.  And yet there is something unique about each of us; That sense of soul.

Disclaimer

We all have important contributions to make to our wonderful world, though admittedly it can take some time to figure out what that is. I built this website to convey my love of nature, health, well-being, and joy.  I delight in patterns found throughout varied and rich world perspectives.  I am curious about how everything is connected. I sought out this space where I might share those connections with others.  Still, I have been warned by many that this is a risky endeavor.  So allow me to say that I am neither a medical professional nor a scientist. I am not a member of every culture referenced.  I am a crone, an elder, a matriarch.  This information does not constitute medical advice, it does not replace common sense, and it does not speak every truth. It is here to entertain, engage, and inspire. In other words, please feel free to explore and enjoy.  If it is not to your liking, please leave us be.  I mean no distress, no discourtesy.    Indeed, I abide by the witch’s creed:  Above all, harm none. Only after that, do what you will.

You often say, “I would give, but only to the deserving.”

The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture.

They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish.
